FAQs

Do we have to regularly attend St Andrew's Church to be married here?

No. But you are most welcome to attend. If you do, we believe it will help you prepare spiritually for your wedding.

How long does the ceremony go for?

The length depends on what readings, hymns, music or form of service you have in your wedding service. Usually, though, the service lasts no longer than 35 minutes.

Can we choose our own minister to marry us?

Yes this is possible, but please check with the parish office first for there are some conditions.

How many people does the church seat?

In the main body of the Church (called the nave) we can sit up to approximately 180 people. A further 30 people can be accomodated in the seating at the sides (called the transept) and another 25 in the chapel.

Can we write our own vows?

In the Anglican Church of Australia, we can only allow the use of prescribed vows as set down in the authorised forms of worship. If you are wanting to make a personal statement of affection to your partner, then please speak to the Rector.

How far in advance do we need to book the church?

There is no restriction on how far ahead you may wish to book a wedding. A $75 (AUD) administration fee will confirm the booking. The earlier you make the booking, the less likely you are to miss out on the time and date you wish. By Australian law, you must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage Form at least one calendar month and one day prior to the wedding.

When do we have a rehearsal and who needs to attend?

A rehearsal time will be discussed with you when you meet the Rector. It is usually on an evening one or two days before the wedding, but this is negotiable and will depend on the availability of the Church. Anyone is welcome to attend the rehearsal, but it is recommended that those who will be involved with the bridal party attend. Those who are reading or performing music are also welcome to attend if they believe they need to practise.

Are we allowed to decorate the church? What guidelines must we follow?

Flowers and pew decorations are welcome. Please see the information booklet for more information.

When can our florist / photographer / videographer etc. access the church to set up?

Access can be made by arrangement with the Rector. The church is usually available for set up one to two hours before the ceremony.
